Who Are We?
Los Alamos Friends of Shelter and Companion Animals (Formerly FOS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of companion and homeless animals. We promote adoption and pay for medical care and spay/neutering of companion and homeless animals in north central New Mexico.
LAFOSCA has two successful medical care programs:
-
The first program pays for veterinary care for pets that experience a catastrophic illness or injury (including heartworm, parvovirus, auto accidents, and broken limbs). This program allows owners of beloved pets to have an option in cases where prohibitively expensive medical care might otherwise have resulted in euthanasia.
-
In the second program, we provide vouchers with a $10-$30 co-pay for sterilization of cats and dogs in order to decrease the number of unwanted pets in the future. We partner with Veterinary Clinics and other shelters in our wider community area to help pet owners with limited resources get their animals sterilized. Our partners are Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic, Valley Veterinary Clinic, Arroyo Seco Animal Hospital, Ridgeview Veterinary Hospital, and Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society
LAFOSCA is a volunteer organization with no paid staff. All funds raised go to cover some minimal overhead expenses and everything else goes for our medical care programs.
In 2020, we spent:
$11,327 on our spay/neuter program
$20,580 on veterinary care
$ 1,047 on miscellaneous animal care
We sent $600 to support other rescue groups.
Our overhead expenses are less than 6%.
